The 'power' of MEDIA

Have been reading aiesec.net postings, all possible news on the cartoons published in the newspaper and couldnt help but post my thoughts about this.

I would say the media or traditionally as we all have been referring to the power of pen has indeed shown drastic results.

Either the media can go on harping about the fact that they have the freedom of expression as their motto, or realize the fact that there is a section of people who wouldnt understand this or give a damn to the media's freedom of expression.

The world consists of people who have different mindsets - and to keep on fighting about who is right and who is wrong - and saying people should not react harshly etc. etc. is completely baseless. Realize the fact that there are such people who would spark off violence when they hear or read such things.

So coming back to media - which also reminds me of my last team's discussion at Vikhroli on the Kashmir issue - we were discussing on what could be the possible steps to improve the situation. Lets say reforms are started - education, economical... And what if the media promoted this rather than one person being killed and fuelling the already existing tensions.

What if there was one day a newspaper that dint mention anything about the war / terror / people being killed and mentioned positive or the better part of life - organizations like AIESEC that are trying to make a difference? Acco. to media - would the so called 'news' not sell enough?

The race for today's media to bring out the truth / to be the best media channels, publications etc. is all ok - but i would say media should realize its power - and work together with the governments closely to see how they can work together to lessen the violence.

I firmly believe the power of media can make a huge difference to already existing tensions and make a big step towards world peace.

Cliff Barnes!

Got thrown out from Cliff Barnes Saturday Night! Woah a story!

At ICX sales weekend we went to “what we thought” a good place for some dancing and craziness - and none other than the old fav Cliff Barnes!

But no…. We got thrown out because we were dancing in a circle and bumped in a few people!

Now thats called maintaining your 'own' circle and even while dancing you have to maintain a structure! Welcome to Sweden :)

Never heard anything worse… So please, our message is: DON’T EVER GO TO CLIFF BARNES!!!! :)

(Our dear MCP got crazy since our group wasn't treated with due respect… At least got money back for the wine…)!

Cool evenings with Lennart...

Lennart Bjurstrom, who was PAI 90 - 91 and MCP of AIESEC Sweden 89-90 has goal setting sessions and really interesting exercises once every month with the Swedish MC!

And indeed I am enjoying it. He is a really cool person. From sharing personal stories to his exciting PAI term where AIESEC came up with our fantastic logo, his stories are really interesting...

Yesterday we had a session with him as well. One thing which is so simple yet profound made me feel indeed very lucky! It followed with a physical exercise

It said:
'Whenever you feel down, bad or really upset, be grateful that your heart is still beating now'

So the whole exercise was about thinking I feel grateful for and think of different things...

Other thing last month was talking about success and in Swedish it means 'framgång' which means forward walk. Sometimes people mistake success to be this one big goal which they should reach, but they forget the steps they take in order to achieve that. All the steps that we achieve to get this success is also success!

Looking forward to more such evenings with him,
Amit
